said that they would sell the 3D glasses by themselves,
over the phone with a credit card or thru the mail by check.

I'm fortunate enough to have access to both, so I guess I'd better answer. Sega
glasses contain two LCD shutters, one over each eye. One shutter is open at a
time. By synchronising the shutters with two stereoscopic images on a screen,
it is possible to give a good 3D effect.
The Sega glasses are not *very* good -- the shutters are not completely opaque
when they are shut. However, they are cheap, since they were designed for the
Sega home entertainment system (similar to a Nintendo system).
I have the glasses connected to a PC with a VGA screen (via the serial port,
since the glasses need +/- 12V). I have generated several 3D images using PD
raytracers (DBW_Render & DKB_Trace) -- each image is 320*400*256 colours.

If you are really interested in 3D, build yourself the Sega glasses
interface and try the demo software (it's really easy to write your
own software based on the demo sources). The sega glasses can be
connected to almost any RS-232 or RS-422 serial port. The files are
mainly for Macintosh use.
